Alimetry
BACKSTORY
Alimetry combines hardware and software to do what no other product has done before – provide a step change in diagnosis for millions of patients with gastric disorders.
A wearable tech product, Alimetry has been the culmination of over a decade of award-winning scientific research out of The University of Auckland, backed by scientific grants from the New Zealand Health Research Council and the US National Institutes of Health, followed by Callaghan Innovation funding.
In early 2020, Alimetry reached out to UiRevolution to develop the linchpin application for this world's first product.
WHY WE DID IT
We were inspired by co-founders Greg O’Grady and Armen Gharibans vision, and the power of this device. With an eye securely on the international market, we realised that this work needed to be of a global standard and be ready to stand up to the rigours of exacting quality assurance. We leaped at the chance to ensure that Alimetry would stand securely on this global footing with our experience as one of the world’s leading native app developers.
While initially Greg and Armen were investigating an in-house resource, they soon realised that engaging with our co-founder Srinivasa Munagala and the team here at UiRevolution would deliver them the best possible outcome, to ensure their product’s best chance of success. Trust was quickly formed between us – and we knew early on that this was going to be a powerful journey together.
HOW WE DID IT
Alimetry had a roadmap of key features and functionality when they came to us. We spent time with them to clearly understand these, and to offer our lens to how best to bring these to users in the most elegant and effective manner possible.
Working with an embedded device can be challenging. To reduce the friction and increase efficiency during development, we needed to re-imagine how we could best develop and test the application without the finished hardware. So we spun up a simulator.
While remaining responsive to their needs, and curious throughout, we stayed ever diligent to our processes and methodologies, with the knowledge that they need to stand up to rigorous international standards and auditing.
WHAT WE DID
We worked with Alimetry to prioritise key releases. Along the way, we were able to advise on improved UX and UI features of the application.
We developed in key phases to closely align with Altimetry’s ongoing testing requirements. Working alongside their team daily with open and transparent processes, we provided direct access to our PM, dev & testing tools, allowing Alimetry to be both reassured by our process and have clear visibility.
The use of our hardware simulator sped up the development process and allowed us to maintain key milestones for Alimetry.
We also worked closely with Altimetry’s wider team to ensure connectivity to the device, and in turn their data stores operated with efficiency and security. Our knowledge of native iOS functionality was key here, as we ensured the device could capture data both online and offline so that patient data was never lost or compromised.
OUTCOME
In March 2021, Alimetry successfully achieved the CE mark for the Gastric Alimetry product, enabling the company to start commercializing the medical device in European countries. Alimetry also has also achieved the ISO 13485 international quality management system accreditation. We are proud that our processes stood up to this rigorous testing and oversight.
Alimetry is positioned to transform the diagnostic pathway for millions of patients worldwide. We are humbled to call Alimetry clients and to continue to serve them, and scores of patients globally to increase their collective health and well-being.
